במתחם בית הספר היסודי ממ"ד "רבי עקיבא" באור עקיבא נחנכה השבוע מועדונית יום חדשה. המועדונית תישא את שמם של שאול ורחל וייצמן, בנו וכלתו של נשיא המדינה השביעי ויקיר העיר, עזר וייצמן. עזר וייצמן ז"ל, "השכן הידוע מקיסריה", היה דמות מוערכת ואהודה, אורח של קבע בעיר אור עקיבא. תרומתו לפיתוח המקום והסיוע לביסוס היישוב רבים וניכרים בהנצחה בכל פינה ברחבי העיר. הרחוב הראשי, קריית החינוך החדישה בשכונת היובל הצפונית ועוד מפעלים שונים נושאים את שמו של מי שנמנה ממקימי חיל האוויר הישראלי

DSCN2279כבר למעלה מ – 40 שנה, עשרות מורות חיילות בחברה להגנת הטבע מדריכות ילדים ובני נוער מהפריפריה לאהבת הארץ, ערכי מורשת וציונות, חינוך לשמירת הטבע והנוף ומחזקות את הקשר שבין הנוער למדינה ולסביבה. מחר, רביעי, תדון ועדת החוץ והביטחון בבקשה של משרד הביטחון לבטל את מוסד המורות חיילות. יו"ר מרכז השלטון המקומי, שלמה בוחבוט, קורא לממשלה לבטל את הבקשה: "מורות חיילות אלה חיוניות לתחומי הרווחה, החינוך והקהילה בערי הפריפריה"
